词最重要的部分是词境。作为晚唐“花间派”的鼻祖,同时也是整个婉约词派的代表人物之一,温庭筠的词境与其他婉约词人的词境稍有不同。与其他婉约派词人相比,温庭筠和同时代的韦庄更喜欢以春天作为词的季节背景;温庭筠更喜欢以画楼闺阁作为主人公活动的舞台;温庭筠词的抒情主人公几乎都是曼妙的女子;温庭筠词的意象比较密集,同时意象与意象之间跳跃比较大;温庭筠比较注重辞藻和设色,尤其喜欢用色彩鲜明、饱满的词。以上诸种要素,使温庭筠的词境相对于其他婉约词人,更香艳温暖,也更繁缛富丽。
The most important part of Ci is its artistic conception. As the first originator of Huajianpai in late Tang Dynasty as well as the representative of Wanyuecipai, Wen Tingyun has created a slightly different world from that of other Ci writers. Wen Tingiun prefers to use spring as the season backgroundings of Ci; Wen prefers to take lady's chamber as his dramatic personae's stage. All the dramatic personae are lithe and graceful girls. Dense images and obvious jumps/leaps between images are also the significant characteristics of his works. Wen pays more attention to rhetoric and likes to use bright and freshly words. All the elements above make the Wen's Ci more euphuisfic, elaborate and more magriificent than other Ci writers.
