摘要
《欢乐之家》书名出自《旧约·传道书》。“智者之心属于悲伤之家,而愚者之心属于欢乐之家。”这恰是19世纪寻欢作乐、道德沦丧的纽约上流社会的真实写照。本文通过分析小说中圣经原型和圣经精神的影响,揭示了西方物质文明下人们所经历的精神危机。
The title of the novel The House of Mirth is taken from Ecclesiastes. The original line is “The house of mirth of fools is the house of mourning of t he wise”, which vividly reflects the pleasure-seeking and immorality of the up p er-class society in the 19th century of New York. The novel discloses modern ma t erialism and the spiritual impoverishment and also shows the concern about the fate of women through analyzing the biblical archetypes and advocating the spirit of the Bible.
