A brief account is given of the working principle and basic structure of the electrostatic precipitator. An analysis is made of the causes for its common failure, viz. , load short circuiting, damage of electric heater of insulation can, low dust collecting efficiency, high secondary voltage, and low and fluctuating secondary current, and countermeasures and preventive measures are put forward.
