香港是中国固有的领土。鸦片战争后，清政府在1842年签订南京条约，把香港岛割让给英国，成为英国的殖民地。后来经1860年、1898年两次的北京条约，香港的地域范围扩大，至现在的范围。
The legal system of Hong Kong
Hong Kong has been part of China since the ancient times. At the conclusion of the Opium War in the early 1840＇s the government of the Qing Dynasty （1644- 1911） signed the Sino-British Treaty of Nanking （Nanjing） with Britain in 1842 which resulted in Hong Kong being ceded to the latter as a colony. The geographical boundaries of Hong Kong were extended further as a result of the two Conventions of Peking （Beijing） concluded respectively in 1860 and 1898 with Britain.
