《新牛津英语词典》注重当代英语的描述和语词的活用，开创了大型语文词典编纂的新路子；双解版不仅保持了原版的风格特征，体现了牛津词典的权威性和典范性，而且在译义和例证翻译、专业术语处理、百科知识介绍等方面也具有独到之处。本文从规模与实用、描写与规范、理解与生成、语文与百科等方面探讨了《新牛津英汉双解大词典》的编译特色。

The New Oxford English Dictionary lays stress on the description of contemporary English and the use of the language, and initiate a new way to the compilation of large-sized language dictionary ; its bilingualized version not only preserves the original style and characteristics, and embodies the authoritativeness and canonicity of Oxford dictionaries, but also has its own distinctive features in the translation of senses, examples, technical terms as well as the representation of encyclopedic information, etc. The present paper makes an attempt to represent the compiling characteristics of The New Oxford English-Chinese Dictionary in terms of size and practicality, description and standardization, comprehension and production, language and encyclopedism and so forth.
