On Cultural Connotations of Chinese and English Metaphors

隐喻是一种文化现象,要受到文化传统、文化体系以及语言结构的影响与制约,这决定了隐喻的民族差异与文化差异。从英汉隐喻词中对喻体的选择与词的内部结构两方面探究英、汉文化在隐喻词上所体现出来的共性与个性特征。

Metaphor is a cultural phenomenon. It is affected and restricted by cultural tradition, cultural system and linguistic structure, which result in its national and cultural differences. Based on the comparison of vehicle choice and internal structure of metaphorical words between Chinese and English, this paper aims at explaining general and specific features of culture between two nations.
