Eliot' s "Tradition and Individual Talent" and Bloom's The Anxiety of Influence both discuss the relationship between tradition and the author, which are accepted by the literary theory circles, though their points are definitely opposite. This thesis attempts to analyze the theoretical basis, views of tradition and its function, rethinks the relationship between the tradition and the individual, and discusses the reasons why two total different theoretical systems could be accepted.
