Foreign Language Education in Modern China:a Historical Review

中国教育现代化是官方倡导、民间参与,以学习西方科学知识为主的教育改革运动。作为教育现代化组成部分的外语教育在此过程中扮演了重要的角色。本文试图从历史与交流的语境出发,描述和分析中国近代外语教育的嬗变与发展,并以此借鉴当今中国的外语教育。

Educational modernization in China advocated by the government and participated by the non-government, is a reform featuring the learning of scientific knowledge from foreign countries. As a part of it, foreign language education plays an important role in the process. The paper aims at describing and analyzing modem Chinese foreign language education in the historical context, and tries to give suggestions to today＇ s foreign language education.
