二十世纪七十年代以来翻译研究告别了边缘地位且逐渐发展成为一门独立学科。一度被忽略而仅仅作为比较文学研究子项的翻译研究重新引起学界的高度重视并大大丰富了前者的内容。翻译在使民族文学向世界文学发展的过程中担当着重大的使命,这与比较文学研究的使命不谋而合。二十世纪后期翻译研究的文化转向大大开阔了翻译研究的视野,并改变着翻译研究与比较文学之间的关系,且对比较文学研究带来挑战。

Translation Studies became an independent discipline since the 1970＇ s, and was never peripheral again. Once a sub - branch of comparative literature, translation studies was emphasized again by comparatists. It proliferates the research of Comparative Literature. Translation carries great mission in universalizing national literatures, which is also the mission of comparative literature. The cultural turn in late 20th century broadened the horizon of translation studies and changed quite a bit its relationship with comparative literature. Translation studies offers a great challenge to comparative literature.
