Language environment is very important to language acquisition. Traditional foreign language learning happens in classroom where there's little target language atmosphere. ICQ chat activities have great potentials to create good target language environment which will greatly enhance foreign language learning. However, it can also impose negative effect on foreign language learning. The strong points as well as weak points of ICQ chat activities to create good language environment are discussed in this thesis, which aims to provide advice to teachers in creating ideal language learning environment for students by proper ICQ chat activities.
