从译者注解看汉语文化负载词汇的英译

On the Approaches to Translating Culture-Loaded Words into English on the Basis of Analyzing Translator's Notes

由于中西文化的巨大差异,译者在翻译汉语文化负载词时很难找到完全对等的英文表达。因此,译者需要采用一些方法和技巧来传递汉语文化信息,以便其译文既便于读者的理解、又尽量保留汉语词汇的民族文化特色。为此,本文在分析和研究名家译者注解的基础上,依据周志培对文化负载词的分类和廖七一提出的文化负载词翻译的原则,总结出其主要的翻译方法有:借用、替代、释义、仿译和注解等,目的是为汉英翻译实践提供有益的借鉴和参考。

Due to the big differences between the English and Chinese cultures, it is extremely hard for a translator to achieve complete equivalence. The translator, therefore, has to employ certain translation strategies to convey the Chinese cultural information so that his translation can either be easy for target language readers to understand or to reserve the Chinese cultures loaded in the words. After a careful analysis of the translator~ notes, the writing attempts to draw a regular approach to the translation of culturally - loaded words into English on the basis of the classification of such words by Zhou Zhipei and the principles raised by Liao Qiyi, which include such methods as borrowing, substitution, paraphrasing, loan - translation and translator＇s note. The purpose of the writing is to offer translators helpful reference in their practice of Chinese - English translation.
