With the rapid development of modem educational technology, the concept of computer-assisted language teaching and the integration of information technology and linguistics appear. Does it mean educational technology promotes linguistics to develop in a unidirectioned way？ Not necessarily. Linguistics and modem educational technology have close ties. Based on the study of linguistics, the stages of linguistics development and the trends of modem linguistics, this paper discusses the great influence of linguistics upon modem educational technology and their mutual relationship. The purpose is to explore the function of linguistics as a pilot science and to strengthen the sense of responsibility of linguists, and to discuss the basic theory and meaning of modem educational technology.
