Four Issues about the Elders' Deeds in Shitingli in the Eastern Han Dynasty

侍廷里父老僤是为集资买地以解决里父老经费而组建的民间组织。容田是对里父老破费的一种补偿。这块土地具有公有和私有二重性质。僤中的二十五人并非都是里父老。里父老的职责繁多,协作互助是父老僤的宗旨。类似的民间组织在汉朝廷的压制和禁止下仍然得到发展。

The Elders＇ Deeds in Shitingli in the Eastern Han Dynasty was a non-governmental organization established to solve the financial problem of the Elders through collecting money to buy land. With dualistic characters, publicly-owned and privately-owned, the land bought and later lent to the Elders was to compensate their expenses for public affairs. Not all the twenty-five members in the organization were the Elders. The organization had many obligations among which cooperation and mu- tual help were its aims. Similar organizations could still develop even under the prohibition and oppression from the government of the Han Dynasty.
