摘要
在乔伊斯的作品当中,《一个青年艺术家的画像》是拥有读者数量最多的一部。但目前国内尚未有研究系统探讨该小说与成长体小说传统的关系。由于《画像》从主题和形式上为乔伊斯的后两部作品做了开拓性的尝试,不少评论将其看成是告别传统的标志。但是,从某种意义上来说,该书不仅是一部“开疆拓域”的作品,也是传统文学的典范之作,对欧洲成长体小说传统既有传承也有超越。
Among all Joyce's works, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man has enjoyed the greatest popularity. Yet few scholars in China have focused on a systematic study of the relationship between this book and the tradition of the European Bildungsroman. Since A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man serves as an experiment for Joyce's later two works in both content and form, many critics regard it as the symbol of departure from the literary tradition. However, in a certain sense, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is not only an innovative work, but also a typical text of the literary tradition because it has both inherited and transcended the tradition of the European Bildungsroman.
