从互文性视角解读《红楼梦》两译本宗教文化翻译策略

On Translation Strategy of Religious Elements in the Two English Versions of Hongloumeng——An Intertextual Perspective

《红楼梦》是一部反映中国封建社会生活的百科全书,其中也充满着佛教和道教文化意识及其有关的语汇。对这些宗教词语文化内涵的理解和处理,不仅体现了译者的文化取向、价值观念,而且也关系到其译作的成败。以杨宪益与霍克斯翻译的《红楼梦》英译本为例,从互文性视角就《红楼梦》两译本宗教文化翻译策略及其宗教渊源进行阐释与解读,可看出,《红楼梦》英译本对宗教文化因素的翻译策略,反映了译者在其所属元文本影响下所形成的宗教文化取向和翻译观,从而使其译作呈现出各自的特色。

Hongloumeng is an encyclopedia that reflects the life in feudal China. It is replete with Buddhist and Taoist culture and related words. The translation of those culturally- loaded words not only reflect translators＇ orientation of values but also determine the success of their translation. The comparative study on the translation of religious elements in the two English versions of Hongloumeng from the intertexual perspective discloses the source culture influences on translators＇ values of religion and translation, which make each version possess its own distinctive features.
