Tomatoes Originated in America were introduced into China during the period of Wan-KLi of Ming Dynasty or so. There is a great possibility that they were initially introduced into China through seaway, and later the introduction continued in many other ways time after time. Although it has been a long history since tomatoes were introduced into China, they were spread at a very low speed. It was not until the early 1900s that tomatoes were grown as vegetable. After the establishment of the New China, they were grown on large scale in China. This paper researches the time and methods that tomatoes were introduced into China, and the distribution and popularization of tomatoes in China from Ming and Qing dynasty to the contemporary era. It also probes into the reasons for the spread of tomatoes.
