A Comparison of the Thematic Progression Models between English and Chinese Argumentative Writings

旨在对比英汉议论文体主位推进模式。根据英汉语料中出现的七种主位推进模式频率总结出:(1)英汉议论文体的主位推进模式主要是平行型、集中型和延续型;(2)跳跃型小句的数量在英汉语语料中呈显著差异。

This paper intends to examine the thematic progression models in English and Chinese argumentative writings. On the basis of seven thematic progression models identified in English and Chinese data, the study concludes that three thematic progression models are dominant in the data, i.e. parallel type, rheme - sameness type and linear type, and there are much more sprung type clauses in Chinese data than English data.
