宋代是我国古代经济、科技文化发展最繁荣的时期,尤其是商品经济发展速度加快。传统的重农抑商政策从宋朝开始松动,宋朝商业的发展与政府的扶持密切相关,是宋经济繁荣的一个重要原因。宋朝开始实行了农商并重的政策,并对通商实施了有效的管理,提高了商人的政治地位,其结果是商人纳赋富国,也为明代资本主义萌芽的出现打下了一个良好的基础。
