明代前期徽人,以歙、休两县为主,承继宋元商业传统,外出经商从不间断。其活动地域十分广泛,遍及全国绝大部分地区。主要经营盐、布、粮食、木、茶等业。在其经营过程中,多能获利,有的成为一代富商,甚至数代相传而成商人家族。明代前期徽州商人的活动,奠定明中叶徽商勃兴的基础。
