The Study on Pragmatic Ambiguity and its Discourse Functions

英语中的语用歧义现象非常普遍。语用歧义在一定程度上容易使人产生误解,影响成功的语言交际。但恰当地使用语用歧义能体现语言的丰富性,并能产生多种语用效果。通过探讨英语语用歧义产生的基本成因,分析了语用歧义的话语功能,指出语用歧义在语言交际中发挥着积极作用。

Pragmatic ambiguity is very common in English language. Pragmatic ambiguity may easily lead to misunderstanding to some extent and may influence people＇s verbal communication. However, the proper use of pragmatic ambiguity reflects richness of language and also produces various pragmatic effects. This paper explores the forming factors of pragmatic ambiguity and analyzes its discourse functions, and proves that pragmatic ambiguity plays a positive role in verbal communication.
