To realize the balance between urban and rural education is premise as well as a must for mending the gap between urban and rural societies, and modern information technology provides unprecedented technical support for that cause. The central government initiated the ″Modern Distance Education Project for Schools in Rural Areas″ in 2003. This essay aims at strategically illustrating the significance, present situation and future prospect of this project.
