《杜隐园观剧记》是一部研究晚清至民国时期温州地方戏曲的珍贵的日记体史料。日记记载的戏目、剧种、班社、戏俗等的数量和种类,比较清晰地反映了这个时期温州戏曲的繁荣。在这个整体繁荣的背景下,受乱弹班冲击的昆班和高腔班在困难的境况下进行了积极的探索。另外,官府禁戏、戏价低廉、伶人地位卑下等现象也体现了艺人艰难的生存处境。

Du Yinyuan＇s Watching Plays Diary is a precious historical data which will be of great benefit to the research of local operas from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China in Wenzhou. From the list of operas, the types of opera, the theatrical troupes, and the custom of acting which were recorded broadly in the dairy, we may quite clearly see the prosperity about Wenzhou local operas at this time, but in the whole prosperous background, we also see the positive exploration of Gaoqiang and Kunqiang when they were impacted by Luantan Troupe at the time. In addition, we can see the poor survival situation of the actors from the performances forbidden by government authorities, the cheap theater entrance fee and the actors＇ lower status inthe common people＇s heart.
