The theory of receptive aesthetics influences China＇ s aesthetical study. The role of the reader is strikingly elevated with the emergence of reception theory. It changes the traditional author- centered and text-centered criticism. In addition, it offers a new dimension for teaching. This article mainly analyses the background and features of reception theory as well as its application in the teaching of American literature.
