隐喻不仅是一种修辞现象,还是人类以一种事物去理解和体验另一种事物的心理映射过程。莱克夫、约翰逊认为始源域与目标域之间的映射不存在一对一的关系,该映射具有放射性和不确定性,语言中的"一词多喻义"现象就是这种映射的体现。

Metaphor is not merely a rhetorical phenomenon, but a cognitive behavior and a mental mapping process of human beings in understanding the objective world based on their embodied experiences. Lakoff ＆ Johnson （1999） assume that the mappings between the source domain and the target domain have the nature of expansibility and indetermination. Based on the analyses of ＂fire＂ metaphor, this paper aims to explore the nature of the multi - mapping of the implicate meanings with the purpose of investigating its cognitive mechanism and motivation.
