Culture Connotation and Translation of "Red"

英语和汉语都大量使用颜色词。"红"作为常见颜色词在汉英表达中频繁出现,有时能出现对应情况,但往往不能直接翻译,从而反映出两种语言系统的颜色词在不同领域的使用中存在显著差异。本文就此作了分析。

A large number of color words are employed both in English and Chinese. ＂Red＂ is a frequently occurred color word in both English and Chinese expressions. This paper analyzes the translation of ＂red＂ and finds out that sometimes we can find direct equivalence, but usually direct translation is improper. Therefore a distinctive difference exists in color words in English and Chinese.
