Cuckoo often appeared in poems during the 2000 years from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Ming and the Qing Dynasties. The description of cuckoo's crowing has never been stopped, and more than 20 different names are give to the bird based on lengend and its homophonic crowing. In ancient times cuckoo was regarded as a bird easy to feel grieved by disappointing love affairs, which is, in fact, the reflection of the pessimistic attitude of the poet himself.
