摘要
密尔的个人自由思想在折衷主义的原则下,彻底修正了功利主义,在为个人自由设置合理界限的基础上,既最大限度地保障了公民的个人自由,又促进了社会整体福利的同步增长;与此同时,密尔又在阐明个人思想与讨论自由的基础上,提倡个性发展的自由,提倡首创精神,在一定程度上促进了社会的良性发展。虽然密尔的个人自由思想发轫于19世纪,但他的个人自由观并没有受到时代的局限,具有永恒的价值。
In the principle of eclecticism, Miller＇s thoughts on individual liberty thoroughly revised utilitarianism. It not only maximally guaranteed individual liberty of citizens, hut also promoted simultaneous growth of social welfare on the foundation of rationally limiting individual liberty. At the same time, Miller advocated liberty of individual development and initiative spirits on the foundation of expounding individual liberty in thoughts and discussion, which enhanced social benign development. Although Miller＇s thoughts on individual liberty originated in the 19th century, his ideas transcended the times with eternal values.
