F ·Scott Fitzgerald is one of the most important novelists in America in the 20th century. The Great Gatsby established his status in American literature. In this story, Gatsby pursued his lover persistently but ended with failure and death, which reveals the difference between ideals and reality and the subsequent, unavoidable destruction of the American Dream. The ending of the novel shows the hypocrisy of the capitalists'so called "freedom and equality", and the deceptive nature of the American dream and the impossibility of attaining it.
