The Effect of Uncertainty and Experience on Alliance Governance in High-tech Industry

本文以高技术企业战略联盟为背景,探讨联盟中不确定性和联盟经历对联盟治理结构选择的影响。作者使用对高技术企业战略联盟的调查样本,实证性地检验了本文提出的研究假设。实证检验结果表明,联盟中的不确定性和联盟经历都与联盟治理结构的选择密切相关。当联盟中涉及更多的不确定性或复杂性时,企业更可能选择股权形式的联盟治理结构;而联盟经历的存在则减少了对股权型联盟治理结构的依赖。因此,联盟经历可以看成是对正式联盟治理结构的有效补充,甚至在某种程度上是对正式的联盟治理结构的替代。

Focusing on alliances in high-tech industry, we explore the effect of uncertainty and experience on choice of alliances governance. By using the sample of strategic alliances in high-tech industry, we empirically examine the theoretical hypotheses proposed in this paper. The empirical results suggest that both uncertainty and experience are closely related to choice of alliance governance structure. Alliances are more likely to be organized by equity joint venture （EJV） when more uncertainties or complexities are involved, while the existence of alliance experience decreases firm＇s reliance on formal governance structure. So we can see that alliance experience may effectively complement or even substitute for formal governance structure to some extent.
