The revision and the replacement of the currency are two essentially different issues. Generally speaking, the meaning of replacement is inclusive of revision. The former is to make significant adjustments over banknote specification, main pattern, color scheme, production process, anti-counterfeit technology, etc. so as to research and develop a suit of new version. The revision is a way of improvement over part of banknote production process and anti-counterfeit technology on the basis that banknote specification, main pattern and color scheme remain unchanged. The reasons for currency revision and replacement are basically： political, economic and technical, all of which vary from nation to nation and from time to time. There has been 57 years since the first release of RMB, among which there were four revisions and one replacement. Precious experiences are thus now available for future currency management in China.
