Unique writing style and skilful bilingual competence have made Eileen Chang one of the most talented and influential modem Chinese writers of the twentieth century. But her role as a translator has been long ignored. With the case studies of Eileen Chang' s translations of The Sing-song Girls of Shanghai in vernacular and in English as reference, this paper elucidates the importance of combining domestication and foreignization in cross- cultural communication and refutes the partial points on the application of these two translation strategies, hoping to provide some useful supplements for the research on Eileen Chang.
