A Review of the 20-year History of the “Red-Sail” Poets' Club

“红帆”诗社的前期成员,多为海南籍,这形成了他们独特的世界观感和文化认知。对于一个意识到自己的文化身份的人来说,在不同的意识层面上,这种文化认同是双向的,因为这里面包含着也许并不自觉的文化自卫,它来自于地理方位给予人的一种深刻的感觉。这给他们以写作诗歌的动力,也增加了诗歌写作的内部张力和丰富意味。“红帆”诗歌是具有本土责任感的“红帆”人的文化激情的结晶,换句话说,“红帆”作为校园文学社团有过的辉煌,是一种文化性格绽放出的精神光彩。“红帆”二十年,的确为海南文化作出了不可磨灭的贡献,因为她培养了海南的诗歌队伍,造成了海南诗歌的持续繁荣,作为海南文学的一支生力军,它以不间断的文学活动,给海南这个日新月异的年轻的省份带来了浓郁的文化气息。

A majority of the first batch of members in the ＂red-sail＂ poets＇ club are natives of Hainan, which helps to constitute their unique observation of the world and their cultural cognizance. For a person conscious of his/her cultural identity, this kind of cultural identification is reciprocal at various consciousness levels, for it may contain its subconscious cultural self-defense which comes from a profound feeling in relation to the geographical location on the part of human beings. The profound feeling can motivate the club members in their poetic creation and add to the innate tension and rich implications of their poetic creation. ＂The red-sail＂ poems are the fruits of cultural passion on the part of the club members with a sense of native responsibility, in other words, the glory of the ＂red-sail＂ poets＇ club as a on-the- campus literary mass organization is the spiritual splendour resulted from the cultural character. Over the twenty years since its founding, the ＂red-sail＂ poets＇ club has virtually made an indelible contribution to the culture of Hainan, for it has trained a contingent of poets in Hainan and has led to the continuous boom in the poetic arena of Hainan. As a vital new force in Hainan literature, the ＂red-sail＂ poets＇ club has, by virtue of its incessant literary activities, brought distinctive cultural flavor to Hainan, a young province changing with each passing day.
