Space and Time & The Classification of Arts

依据不同的标准,艺术有多种分类方式,空间型和时间型艺术是一个被普遍接受的艺术类型划分方式,这种方式虽然在一定程度上揭示了各种艺术体裁在媒介和形态等方面的特征,但发生在时间和空间这两种物质存在形式之间的艺术转换却常常因为这种划分方式被否定或忽略了。由于相对于人的感知而言,时间不像空间那样可以被视觉、触觉等感官所直接把握,时间对于人来说不具有一个相应的感觉媒介,对时间的感受和表达只能借助于在思维中从时间到空间的转换。正是在这种转换中,艺术才获得了无限的表现力和无穷的魅力。

In the field of arts, there are many method s of classification which depend on different criteria. One of the methods is to make a distinction between s pace arts and time arts. Although this kind of classific ation reveals the features of different arts in some ex tends, the artistic translation between time and space is usually neglected or even negated. Because time is neither tangible nor visible, the experience and expre ssion of time can only achieved by means of the tran slation between time and space. This kind of artistic t ranslation is the source of the power of artistic expre ssion and fascination.
