The democratic transformation launched by the West in the Middle East and reaction from Islamic countries have marked the most recent massive interaction between the two sides. The root of anti-West sentiments in the Muslim world lies in realpolitik instead of religion. Democracy promotion, the legacy and manifestation of Western centrism, have become primary policy objective and means as well after the 911 events, and evoked protest and resistance from the Muslim world. However, in a longer run, the Muslim world has to face up to its various internal deficiencies.
