By means of historical records, stele text and other literature materials, the paper studies Yuan Shao, a Chinese monk from Guangdong Province who migrated to Vietnam in the early Qing Dynasty, and other overseas Chinese. The paper finds that Yuan Shao lived from 1648 to 1728 and in 1677 he migrated into Vietnam. Chinese monks such as Yuan Shao, Zhuo Gong and Ming Xing, presented a particular aspect in the history of overseas Chinese in Vietnam. Although they did not form a Chinese community, yet their names and merits are archived in gravestones so that they were remembered by the local people after hundreds of years. The fact that overseas Chinese such as Ou' yang hui-deng, Jiang Guang-ting, Chen Wen-hui, Cheng Tai-rong and Huang Wo-rui were able to engrave their names in Vietnamese back steles reflected an unusual condition of survival-the overseas Chinese rooted in their settlement country and peacefully coexisted with the local people.
