Chinese-English Translation of Public Signs:Miscellaneous Errors and Relevant Translation Theories

本文通过大量实例剖析和相关理论探讨,对公示语翻译在我国改革开放和对外交往中的重要性以及目前存在的问题的严重性进行了论述,同时从译学角度对公示语翻译研究进行了简要归纳。文章概括了公示语翻译错误的主要形态,同时指出了公示语翻译可以依据的翻译理论,进而强调了规范公示语翻译的紧迫性以及必要性。作者认为,随着全球化时代的到来以及我国对外开放的日渐深入,公示语翻译应该置于大外宣范畴内得到更大的重视,翻译理论研究应该更多地关注公示语翻译。

Based on the rich array of samples and related translation theories, the article stresses the significant role Chinese-English public signs play in the process of China＇ s opening up and international exchanges. By exploring the miscellaneous errors in Chinese-English public signs, the article sums up the main factors and underlying problems behind the erroneous misuses and mistranslations, The author argues that more attention needs to be attached to the rectification of Chinese-English public signs while in the academic community more focused theoretical and practical attention is called for to address the problems in Chinesc-English public signs and external publicity at large.
