The Intended Function of the Target Text and Translation Strategies

翻译越来越被看成是在特定的语境中针对目标读者力求达到一定功能的活动。目标文本的功能可以指单个文本的直接用途也可指文化政治功能,分为意识形态功能和诗学功能两部分。目标文本的预设功能通过影响翻译策略在目标文本形成过程中起重要作用。从另一角度讲,研究翻译作品特定翻译策略的选择能够揭示译者为其目标文本预设的功能。

Translation is increasingly seen as a tool to attain certain function on a specified group of readers in a context of situation or in an even broader context of culture. The intended function can be the immediate use of a single text or it may refer to some cultural functions, The intended function of the target text itself plays a role of shaping the target text-to-be through the selection of translation strategies. From another perspective, to study translation that have already been in existence, the study of specific translation strategies resorted to reveals among all other governing factors the intended function that the translator envisages for higher translation.
