Differences of Cultural Connotation between English and Chinese Animal Words

词汇意义标志着人们对客观世界认识的广度和深度,受到人们所属群体文化的影响和制约。动物被赋予的各种寓意都具有浓厚的民族文化特色及深远的社会历史渊源,英汉语中动物词汇的文化内涵就存在很大差异,体现了其所属群体的文化背景。全文从地域文化、习俗文化、宗教文化、民族文化等角度探析了中英两种文化体系下英汉动物词汇的文化内涵差异,旨在促进英语教学、推进跨文化交际。

Lexical meaning, influenced and limited by the group culture it belongs to, marks the width and depth of people＇s cognition of the external world . The implied meanings of animal words that they are endowed with have strong national cultural traits and profound social historical origins. There exist the striking differences of the cultural connotation between English and Chinese animal words, embodying the cultural background of the group they belong to. This thesis is trying to explore the differences of the cultural connotation of English and Chinese animal words under the two cultural systems in the following aspects such as regional culture, custom culture ,religious culture and national culture,in order to promote English teaching and push forward the cultural cross communication.
