The axle fracture accident happened in the running of screw conveyor of drier in TA unit in PTA plant was introduced. The reasons were analysed from the aspects such as macroscopic test, chemical composition analysis, metallurgical analysis, mechanical test, macroscopic fracture analysis and static strength check. The reasons for the accident are fatigue fracture. The improvements plans were put forward from the screw conveyor axle structure and manufacturing process. Better economic and social benefits were obtained.
