Disillusion and Reality——A Study of Australian Myth in Realistic Plays

澳大利亚戏剧在民族主义运动的驱动下逐步走向本土化,后期的现实主义剧作家在戏剧的题材、内容和语言上都进行了大胆革新,颠覆了陈旧的澳大利亚民族神话,使澳大利亚戏剧真正走进现实生活,为后来的现代主义戏剧的发展奠定了基础。

Urged by nationalistic movement in the 90ths of the 19th century, Australian drama is on the way to have its own character. Realistic dramatists in the late 50s of the 20th century have innovated genre, content and language of the drama, and by disintegrating its old Australian myth, made Australian drama closer to real life. In this essay, the author looks into the subject from three aspects： hard bush life vs colorful city life; Australian myth vs crude reality; immigrant＇s English vs Australian vernacular.
