On the Foreignizing Translation of Foreign Anthology from Narratology

小说的叙事传统在很大程度上制约着翻译小说的选材和策略。首先,从翻译的选材来看,《域外小说集》的诗化叙事迥异于当时中国小说的叙事传统;其次,从翻译策略来看,鲁迅兄弟率先倡导异化翻译,而不是参照中国对小说叙事模式进行归化,从而造成了读者的缺席,但对西方现代小说的叙事模式的异化翻译却宣告了文学形式和翻译策略的新时代的来临。

The choice of texts and the strategies of translated novels are to a large extent constrained by the tradition of narrative techniques. The translation of Foreign Anthology by the Zhou brothers was not well received in its time as a result of the fact that it is quite different from traditional novels in terms of narrative modes and that foreignizing translation is adopted by the Zhou brothers. However, it announced the birth of new literary devices and translation strategies.
