Practice and Explorations on English Newspaper Teaching

“英语教学的特点之一是要使学生尽可能多地从不同渠道、以不同形式接触和学习英语,亲身感受和直接体验语言及语言运用。”除了合理有效地使用教科书以外,还应该积极利用其他课程资源,英文报刊不失为绝佳选择,因为它无论从内容、取材、题材等方面均弥补了教科书之不足。笔者结合自己在美国的所见所闻以及国内授课经验,探讨了各类有效激活学生兴趣的手段,颇具实用性。

One outstanding feature of English teaching is to enable students to experience how language applies in the actual world. Textbook was traditionally viewed as the main source, yet in terms of modern standards this notion has been proved out of date, A large part of our knowledge, in particular, the up-to-date language information, is obtained through wide variety of channels, among which newspaper is one of them, Teaching English newspaper not only consolidates students＇ language skills, but also keeps them well informed in English; therefore, it serves as a definite plus and effective extension to textbooks. This paper probes into different categories of newspaper teaching approaches so as to spark to the maximum students＇ curiosity and interest. It is hoped to arouse reflection and further investigation in the education field.
