Orientation Effect of Verb Representation in Language Comprehension

目的探讨汉语阅读理解中动词的作用方向对不同空间位置的物体辨别的影响。方法以"主语+谓语"结构的汉语肯定句和否定句为实验句,不同方位的辨别图片为实验图片,采用物体辨别实验任务,运用句子-图片匹配/不匹配范式,以图片辨认的反应时间为指标。结果动词作用方向与物体位置的匹配状态的主效应显著,句型主效应及二者交互作用不显著。结论汉语的阅读理解中会激活对动词的作用方向的表征,这会对视觉空间中物体的辨别产生影响,并且这种表征是自动的,非策略性的。

Objective To explore the influences of the orientation representation of verb in reading comprehension on visual object discrimination in different spatial position. Methods Chinese affirmative and negative sentences, structure as ＂ Subject ＋ Predicate＂, were adopted as experimental sentences, and ＂○＂ or ＂□＂ in different spatial position as experimental pictures. Visual discrimination task was engaged in the sentence-picture match/mismatch paradigm, and data of reaction time of visual discrimination were collected. Results Main effect of match state of orientation of verb and ＂○＂ or ＂□＂ spatial position was significant, but sentence type and interaction were not significant. Conclusion During Chinese reading comprehension, the orientation representation is activated and affects the visual discrimination. Such representation is automatic and non-tactical.
