Saussure held that a langunge was a complete system of signs and had a layered foimal structure. This theory has important linguistic reference value for natural speech processing and a study of a dialogue between man and the computer. As the computer works according to the program made by man, we can set up a vocabular knowledge bank suitable for the computer by framing a semantic condensation network and a semantic combination network of linguistic units of Chinese and let the computer process Chinese information.
