汉代司马相如、扬雄、桓谭、张衡等赋家创作速度非常缓慢,这在汉代是一个引人注目的现象。从这类作家的文学观和处境看,他们非常关注赋的讽谏功能,但其宫廷文人和臣子的处境导致他们很难在作品中直接、顺畅地表达政教意图,讽谏之难是造成这类作家创作缓慢的根本原因。

Poetry writers of the Han Dynasty, like Sima Xiangru, YANG Xiong, HUAN Tan and ZHANG Heng, were slow in creating Fu, a kind of poetry in the Han Dynasty, which was a unique phenomenon in the Han Dynasty. From the perspective of their literal outlook and situation, they cared much more about the satire function of Fu than anything else. However, their real identity as a royal court literati and officials as subjects to the emperor confined them from expressing their political intention straightforwardly and smoothly, which was the fundamental reason why this group of writers was slow in their literal creation.
