In the fourth year of Xiantong of the Tang Dynasty (863 AD), the central government appointed a Liangzhou Jiedu (military governor) to control six districts (zhou) including Liang and Tao. In the beginning, this position was usually held by the Jiedu of Shuofang. However, as the situation in the Hexi Corridor changed, the Tang government changed the position of Liangzhou Jiedu to Hexi Dufangyu (military commander for defense), and finally to Hexi Jiedu. The jurisdiction was also adjusted from Longyou to the eastern Hexi Corridor. After the readjustment, the Tang government provided effective administration to this area through the Liangzhou Jiedu. Although it withdrew from the position of Liangzhou Jiedu, the Shuofang Jiedu remained active in the local affairs of the Hexi Corridor in the late Tang Dynasty. This reflected the diverse administrative strategies of the Tang government in the Hexi Corridor.
