现代性这一概念在当代学术语境中用法复杂,从语源学上来看,现代性作为"现时代的特性",它将一切价值的基点安置在现在甚至未来。在对现代性的客观含义进行阐释时,社会理论家们将现代性或者理解为某种历时性、区隔性的属性,或者理解为某种总体性社会状况,或者理解为某种新兴信念的初步实现。现代性所遵循的规范性内容是基于主体性原则以及理性的公共使用即合理化基础上的各领域的自主性。各种左派、右派等思想家对现代性的攻击和辩护则使得现代性呈现了内在弊病。通过哈贝马斯与利奥塔的论战,在审美现代性视阈下的启蒙现代性在现代社会的可能意义得以充分凸显,并为重新思考法兰克福学派的现代性理论目标提供了一个观测视角。

Modernity,in the use of the word,is a complicated concept in the modern academic speech environment. Modernivty, as a word with＂ the characteristics of modern times＂, is based on the values of now and future from the point of view of senmantics. Social theorists give the different explanations on the sense of modernity, such as a period of time, a regional attribute, a general social situation, a initial materialization of newly emerging belief. The standard content of modernity is based on the subject principle and rational freedom in the various fields. The various attacks and defence from the thinkers of the left and the right reveal the internal ills of modernity. The debate between modernity and post - modernism reveals the sense of modernity of enlightenment in modern society within the vision of aesthetic modernity,which provides a viewing angle to rethink the modern theory of Frankfort school.
