By analysis of the image of Bosia of Shakespear＇s The Merchant of Venice and its ultimate significance, this paper reveals the fuzziness of the western humanist view about harmony presented by Shakespear, which lies in the pursuit of social harmony and doubt about the realization of social harmony.
