“石”,中国古代度量衡单位之一。在秦汉时期,作为重量单位,一石为百二十斤;应用于量制,石相当于斛,即十斗为石;应用于官秩,若干石从标识俸额多少的度量衡单位发展成为划分官制级别的秩级单位。将“石”作为一个概念,分别从度量衡和官制层面进行分析和论述,着重探讨秦汉时期“石”的特定内涵及其在应用中的重要意义。

＂Dan＂ was a unit of weights and measures in ancient China. It has special meanings in the period of Qin and Han Dynasties. As a unit of weight, one dan meant great hundred jin. As a unit of capacity, ＂dan＂ was equal to ＂hu＂, which meanl ten ＂dou＂. ＂Dan＂ was stir applied to the bureaucratic establishments, which devdoped from weighing the grains of oflicial＇s salary to be the unit of ofticial＇s rank. The conception and applied meaning of ＂dan＂ in the period of Qin and Han Dynasties were analysed and discussed from two aspects such as weights and measures and bureaucratic establishment in the paper.
