《鲍里斯·戈杜诺夫》是穆索尔斯基的杰作。19世纪的俄国相对于西方还是一个落后的农奴制国家，1861年才开始废除农奴制度，政治黑暗使当时的知识分子和艺术家深感压抑。穆索尔斯基是俄国“强力集团”中最有天赋的作曲家，作品不多，但影响很大，德彪西便极其推崇穆索尔斯基。
OUTLINE/Mussorgsky was a member of Russia＇s ＂The Mighty Handful,＂but his outstanding talents were often overshadowed by his alcoholism. Nevertheless,his only opera is a true testament of Mussorgsky＇s compositional prowess.Liquor,however,has proven to be an omnipresent link to the arts.The appreciation of music,therefore,is just like the appreciation of the wonderful aromas of wines.
